Florence Scovel Shinn, 1925. Complete text.
Shinn wrote this in 1925 after years of speaking to small New York gatherings, and it reads like it: short cases, plain sentences, an affirmation at the end of almost every argument. There is no system diagram here and no attempt at metaphysics for its own sake. A woman wants a house, a man wants a position, and Shinn tells them what to say and what to stop saying.
The book is where much of the spoken-word practice used in modern manifestation writing originates. Her insistence that the word must be spoken with conviction rather than repeated anxiously, her treatment of forgiveness as a practical clearing operation, and her rule that you must act as though the thing were already yours all appear here in their earliest popular form.
The dated parts are visible and we have left them alone. The text below is her wording, chapter by chapter, exactly as published.
Transcribed from the Project Gutenberg edition of the 1925 first printing. The book was published in the United States in 1925 without a renewed copyright and is in the public domain.
